01The name
What is a yarumo?
The white yarumo (Cecropia telenitida) is a tree of the Andes in Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador and Peru: it grows fast, opens an umbrella-shaped crown, and its big lobed leaves are recognisable from afar. It lives between 1,000 and 3,000 m and is one of the first to bring a forest back.
That leaf is the one drawn all over this site. And a minute from the house, at the Chorro de Quevedo, stood a yarumo declared one of Bogotá’s heritage trees in 2023.
02The house
Clay tiles, corridors and a courtyard.
A colonial-style house on Calle 12 with a white façade and turquoise skirting, clay-tile roofs, wooden doors and a central courtyard with a fountain and a tall tree. From the terrace, the house says, you can see Monserrate.
Inside, the hostel, the house café and tables for working all share the space. The house describes itself as eco-friendly and digital-nomad friendly.
